Community Engagement Council

“Even the most entrenched systems, and old ways of doing business can change when those who live, work, and worship in a community share a common identity, work together to improve neighborhood conditions and align policies and practices with their goal.” — Excerpted from Sustaining Neighborhood Change: The Power of Resident Leadership, Social Networks, and Community Mobilization, The Annie E. Casey Foundation

We believe that genuine community engagement puts resident voices at decision-making tables, with competence and confidence to participate fullyIn December 2010, we hosted our first Community Engagement Council (CEC) meeting.  The Council leadership consists of Anjene Davis, Chair, and Vice Chair Mike Mason.  As Chair and Vice Chair of the CEC, Anjene and Mike serve on the CPN Board as Community Neighborhood Representatives.

The CEC meets monthly and has created two areas of focus:

  • Foster and cultivate next-generation leadership and activism through the development and support of a CPN Youth Leadership Council composed of middle and high school students from the Neighborhood.  As of January 2012, YouthPromise started as a pilot program at Sanders-Clyde Elementary/Middle School.
  • Empower and engage existing community members by designing and hosting a CPN Community Leadership Institute.  The first Community Leadership Institute series started in March 2012.  Contact us if you would like to learn more about or participate in the Community Leadership Institute.
